The Challenge: Grid Constraints
Oakwood Park upgraded their facility with a large-scale Victron Energy Storage System (ESS) comprising three MultiPlus-II 10kVA inverters in a three-phase configuration. The goal was to maximize self-consumption from their 40kWp solar array and provide back-up power for critical servers.
However, the local Distribution Network Operator (DNO) imposed a strict export limit of 5kW per phase (15kW total) due to local substation congestion. Under the G100/2 standard, the DNO required a "fail-safe" export limitation solution.
The Problem: While Victron’s internal ESS settings can limit export, the DNO often requires a discrete, secondary device that provides dedicated monitoring and a hardware-level "fail-safe" to ensure the site never back-feeds the grid beyond the agreed limit if the primary control system lags or fails.
The Solution: The OGP G100 CLS
To meet the DNO's rigorous requirements without downgrading the inverter sizes, they simply installed OffGrid Pro's G100 CLS
System Architecture
The G100 CLS was installed into the Victron system, using the internal contactors and energy meters to control the flow of power.
-
Communication: It communicates via RS485/Modbus TCP directly with the Victron Cerbo GX.
-
Hard-Wired Interlock: A fail-safe relay was wired to the MultiPlus-II "Auxiliary 2 Input." If the export limit is exceeded, the device triggers a signal to the Victron system to immediately throttle production or, in a worst-case scenario, trip the AC input.
