During this wiring guide we will show the process for a MultiPlus-II 230V and a Cerbo GX, though other Victron inverters are similar it is very important to check the user manual for your specific equipment to ensure you are using the correct terminals.

Wire definition

On the top of the device there are 3 terminals for the RS485 Connection. From left to right, the connections are as follows using the Victron USB to RS485 cable: Yellow, Black, Orange.

The Bottom left is for the DC power input, positive then negative, in the range of 12 - 60V DC. The bottom right are for both auxiliary outputs, 1 and 2 respectively.

Both auxiliary outputs are normally open (NO) and do not have a polarity. The behaviour of the outputs can be configured from the web interface. Only one auxiliary output needs to be connected to an inverter / contactor, the other can be left disconnected and is optional.

Wiring guide

We recommend connecting the positive of the G100 CLS to the +12VDC output on your inverter, and the negative to either AUX1 -, T-sense -, V-sense -, or BAT - as there are no dedicated negative terminals available in this example. For the exact terminal, check the manual of your specific inverter.

For the auxiliary output 1 on the G100 CLS, if you are using the built-in relay of the inverter, connect them to the AUX2 terminal. Alternatively, if you choose to use an external contactor, connect the auxiliary output 1 according to the wiring diagram of the contactor. The remaining auxiliary output 2 is optional and can be connected to whichever device you need as per the instruction of that device, or be left disconnected.

Cerbo Setup

For the OGP G100 CLS to communicate with your chosen GX device, a driver needs to be installed first.

To do this download the “venus-data.tar.gz” file from our Github repo

Click on the “venus-data.tar.gz” to download the file

Drag that file to an empty USB stick without renaming it. It is important that the file is not in a folder as the Cerbo GX will not be able to see it otherwise.

Safely eject the disk and plug it into your Cerbo GX

PIC NEEDED

Restart the Cerbo GX (Settings -> General) and once complete, unplug the USB stick

Restart the Cerbo GX once more, and now the driver is installed

Before connecting the G100 CLS to the Cerbo GX, ensure it is configured properly. See system setup below.

System setup

Initial setup

After connecting your G100 CLS to power for the first time, it must be configured before connecting to your GX device.

To do this, download the tool from https://www.offgridpro.co.uk/g100/ and connect the USB side of the RS485 cable to a laptop / computer.

The USB C port on the G100 CLS is NOT used for programming and is NOT to be used.

Open the tool and connect to the correct COM port. You may need to refresh after plugging in your USB to RS485 adapter

On first connection, the tool will read the current configuration of the G100 CLS. Hovering over any options will show a description, on the right side, of what that option does.

Set the correct import / export limits as provided by the DNO and set the auxiliary outputs to match your requirements - at least one must be set to a contactor for the CLS to function properly.

Write the changes to the CLS and confirm in the logs, on the right side of the screen, to see if  they have been set correctly.

If you wish to test continuity or that the assistants are set correctly, enable the test functions and enable / disable the outputs.

After configuring your device, ensure you click disconnect before unplugging the cable from your laptop / computer before plugging it into the GX device.

Auxiliary outputs

At least auxiliary outputs must be set to a contactor, which will be connected to either your inverter(s) auxiliary input, or wired into a contactor at the POC.

For a full description of what each configuration does, mouse over the drop down and a section of the window will explain the functions.
